Christmas 2009

Christmas was so busy this year! Mat and I both worked Christmas Eve Day and then had to be at Mom and Dad Hahn's by 2:30. We got the traditional family jammies and a neat car gadget that I hope will save me someday when my battery dies. (With my luck it will) I forgot my camera for Mom and Dad Hahn's house so my only pics are from Bannister Christmas. After we finished up with the Hahn's I failed miserably at making sweet potatoes on time and we were late to Bannister side Christmas Eve. It was fun to see all the relatives. We ate Carne asada and visited with all of Lyndon's side. On Christmas Eve we had a slumber party at the Bannister's and played Wii all night long. The next morning we had breakfast and opened presents. Mat and I got a new video camera and some cute clothes. Later on Christmas Day we went out to Mat's Grandparent's house where we ate again and opened more presents. We were spoiled with clothes this year! We are so thankful to have both our families in town but, man, It's exhausting!! We hope you all had an enjoyable Christmas! Ü

DENVER!

Well, Melanie had her baby! Peyton Mona McIlroy was born on November16!! She is as cute as a button. I was able to go visit them the weekend after the baby was born. I had such a fun time playing with the girls. They danced all night for me and Mom! I was able to help Mel out and make some frozen dinners to make their lives a bit easier for a week or so. Hopefully they enjoyed them. I had such a fun time visiting my favorite nieces!! Thanks Mel and Bran for having me!

Nursing School!

Here are some funny pics of me and my classmate Jagdeep goofing off at our clinical site. We have been doing our public health clinica at a free clinic in Vancouver. It was really neat. We were able to do graduate level work by reasearching all the patients to identify whether the diabetic patients were on certain types of medications. With this data, we were able to help the clinic write a grant to see if Kaiser will provide them with a new test machine! I know.. I'm so nerdy! Hope you enjoy!

ED Nurse

So...the professors have decided where to place the senior nurses for our preceptorships next term. Out of 3 Emergency room openings, I have been placed at Legacy Emanual ED for my preceptorship/internship!! This will be my second rotation at Emanuel, so this is very good news! I start in January and CANNOT WAIT!!!

November Trip

This year is Mat's good friend, Jordyn's, last season of football at Eastern Oregon. We decided to drive out and support the team in Jordy's last game. Oops...I forgot my camera. So you'll have to rely on imagination! We took the long drive to LaGrande, Oregon. We had a great time searching for channels on the radio and driving in the mountains in the dark. On Saturday, we went to the tailgate before the game and met up with Jordyn's parents and his girlfriend Jessica. We cheered our hearts out when Jordyn was honored for being a senior athlete. They were playing the nurmber two team in the league and they were ranked 22. It was a very close game. The Mountees put up a good fight. Jordyn had a few great catches and even scored a touchdown. It was a fun break from our every day lives!!

August 18th

OMG! I do know that it's September. But I happened to miss posting what Mat and I did for our 3rd Wedding anniversary! The weekend before the 18th we drove up to Long Beach, WA and stayed in a resort right on the beach. The weather was gloomy Washington weather, but it wasn't so bad. We had a good time and ate breakfast right on the beach! While we were up there, we also went to a friend's wedding. We had a good time staying up late around the campfire with, Mat's friend, Adam's family. All in all it was a super relaxing time, but it was a long drive home.
I can't believe that it has already been three years that we've been married. I look back on our wedding day and wish we could do it all over again. I am so happy to be married to such a supportive and loving husband. He challenges me everyday and brings out the best in me. Now if only I could figure out a way to challenge him back.LOL

August? Already?

Man I can't believe I missed a whole month!! Mat and I have been very busy being socialites and I have been in Summer School. Mat has been playing softball 3-4 times a week, but ended up pulling his hamstring about 4 weeks ago. He still insists on going to every game, and this past week has started to play again. He is still a little hesitant, but he'll get back into it soon!
The 1st was Mat's company picnic at the Zoo. It ended up being a beautiful day. It was nice to go to the zoo, but strange to not have any little kids with us. (We didn't know what to do!) I did win Bingo at the company party and made $40 bucks!
My summer school classes were interesting. I was in Psychiatric nursing and found it a field that was interesting, but VERY slow. I'm not sure if I could work in that field 40 hours a week; I might need a change of pace occassionally. Finals were last week so for now it's back to work.
We did manage to sneak in a camping trip with Mat's teammates to Mt. Hood at Clear Lake few weeks ago. It was so nice to get out of town for the weekend and the weather was great. We both love the outdoors so much and Mat was able to fish a little bit, but no one caught anything. Here's a few random pics from the summer!

JUNE!!

I can't believe it's June already! I figure I should blog at least once before I head back to school this week. Starting Tuesday, I am back to school for my last year of nursing school. This Summer we are doing our Psych rotation at Portland Adventist hospital down in Portland. I am excited, but kinda nervous because I'm not sure what to expect.
The last few weeks, I have been playing soccer with Joanie's team on Friday nights. The first night was a double header (full-length games) Needless to say, I had a hard time walking the next morning. This week was better, but I got drilled in the leg with the soccer ball and have a pretty mean imprint on my leg! I forgot how difficult it is to actually run and kick a ball at the same time! LOL Ü
Yesterday, Mat had a softball tournament down at Delta Park. He played AMAZING!! He hit really well and his team beat the #1 team in the Northwest for the Championship. So...I guess that makes them the best team in the Northwest! His team won $1000 and a berth to the Nationals Tournament this year. Super exciting!
All in all it's been a busy summer and it has been flying by. Hopefully school will do the same.Ü
Here's the the last year of nursing school!

Grad Partay!!

Mat's Grad party was a hit! We celebrated on May 24th out in Scappoose at Mat's Grandparents house. We played a little wiffle ball, ate hamburgers and cake and had a good time! Mat's parents bought him (I think his fav present) a new hardhat to wear to work. It's made of the material they make bullet proof vests out of. It was so nice to see everyone in such a relaxing environment and have a good time! We are all so proud of Mat. In these pictures are my family, Mat's grandparents, Mat's mom, Aunties and uncles in the kitchen, And grandma too! Everything was decorated in a construction theme. We had hardhats and caution tape everywhere and I made signs that read "Caution New Grad!"

I'm so proud of Mat and his great accomplishments this year!

Graduated from NWCC!!

Whoot Whoot!! Mat's is the first graduate! Last night Mat had his graduation dinner at the Embassy Suites in Portland. The dinner recognized all the students at the Northwest College of Construction who were eligible to graduate this year. Mat still has four more classes to complete, but he is a Journeyman Carpenter by my standards! I'm so proud of him for sticking with this for 4 years and working so hard to support our family. He is still working for Yorke and Curtis and (as long as they have work,) will continue to do so!

Softball season is Underway!

Boys and girls... it's time to get your rally hats on! Mat's softball season started this week!

He is playing for two teams and is a pickup for a few others. So far he is playing on his Company team with is co-workers and Dad. (Christian sometimes too). He is also playing for a more competitive team called " Anchor Salty Nuts." Mat hit some laser beams yesterday in his game. I was super proud of him, he's become quite the baller! (Softballer that is...) Yesterday they won both games and in the second game ended up 10-running the other team. I can't wait to watch a game from the more competitive team!

We've joined the club!

Kristen made us do it! LOL So here goes...Welcome to Mat and Cortney's life. We're not so exciting, but we decided that this is pretty easy to keep up to date and stay in touch with those who live far away.
